Custodial history

The Provincial Archives of Alberta received the plays from Theatre Alberta. Theatre Alberta did not collect the plays, but accepted the collection from the Alberta Conference for Theatre. However, the University of Alberta, Department of Extension appears to have possessed the material prior to the Alberta Conference for Theatre, and the original collector of the material may have been the Department of Culture, Youth, and Recreation Library.

Scope and content

The collection consists of scripts that won the Alberta Playwriting Competition dating from 1970 to 1988. The fonds also consists of plays dating from 1943 to 1970 which likely won other playwriting contests. Additionally, the fonds includes two plays from Edmonton playwright and director Brad Fraser as well as two plays by Canadian actor Paul Gross, known for his work on the television series Due South.
