Biographical history

Alonzo Stevens (b. 1877) was a soldier in the Boer War or South African War (1899-1902) and served with the 4th Regiment Canadian Mounted Rifles. He was the son of George H. Stevens of Musquash, Saint John County, New Brunswick. Alonzo Stevens enlisted at Saint John. On 29 November 1905, Stevens, a member of the Church of England, married Eva Calvin of Saint John. He was probably still alive when he was made a freeman of the city on 18 May 1967, along with other Boer War veterans, in honour of his military service.
