Accession 82/6 was donated by Don Meakes in 1981. At that time Meakes was Coordinator of Ministry Training in the Diocese of Cariboo. The originals of accession 95/49 and 95/107 were donated to the Yukon Church Heritage Society by Christina M. Roe, Rev. Sim's great niece and stored at the Yukon Archives as part of the Anglican Church, Diocese of Yukon Records deposit agreement with Yukon Archives. The originals were subsequently transferred to the Old Log Church Museum in Whitehorse.

Scope and content

The fonds consists primarily of the administrative and operational textual records of the Anglican Church, Diocese of Yukon. The fonds also includes photographs, maps and plans, a film and a sound recording. The fonds has been organized into the following six series: Diocesan Records; Parish Records; Related Organizations; Reference Files; Maps and Publications; and Photographs. (See the finding aid for detailed descriptions.) The following six accessions are not in the finding aid. Accession 80/129 contains 22 images of the Old Log Church, scenes at Carcross, the visit of Princess Alexandra to Whitehorse, Sourdough Rendezvous, and old buildings in Whitehorse. Accession 81/16 contains financial records, correspondence, meeting minutes, and annual reports of St. Paul's Anglican Church in Dawson City. There are also papers of various organizations within the church including the Sunday school, Women's Auxiliary, Chancel Guild, and Boys' League. Also in this accession are some records of St. Andrew's United Church in Dawson City, St. Barnabas Church in Moosehide, Church of Christ the Pioneer in Bear Creek, and the Good Samaritan Hospital of Dawson City. Accession 82/6 contains two booklets titled "The Consecration of Rev. Ronald Curry Ferris to be Bishop in the Church of God", Diocese of Yukon, Quinquagesima, 1981 and "The Installation of the Rt. Rev Ronald Curry Ferris as Ninth Bishop of Yukon in Christ Church Cathedral", Whitehorse, Y.T., Diocese of Yukon, Quinquagesima, 1981. Accession 84/72 contains a handmade Christmas card consisting of a pen and ink drawing of St. Paul's Anglican log church in Dawson City, a b&w photograph of the 1902 St. Paul's frame building, a brief hand-lettered history of St. Paul's Church by James R.H. Warren. There are also four b&w photographs of the card as described above. Accession 88/24 contains a six paged typed manuscript by Bishop Tom Greenwood of his recollections about his ministry in the Yukon. There are also 38 b&w and 9 colour images of the Greenwoods, various Anglican Church workers, Chooutla School staff, Old Crow parishioners, Camp Gikhychon, congregation at Minto, McCabe, and the refinery at Haines Junction. Accession 88/128 contains St. Paul's Hostel Matron's book and the Minute book of the Diocesan Board of the Anglican Church Women's Auxiliary, Diocese of Yukon.

Restrictions on access

The majority of the church records are accessible to researchers. The one exception is baptism, burial, marriage and confirmation records. These specific records are noted as being restricted in the finding aid. Researchers requiring information from these registers and able to prove their relationship to the person whose records are being sought will be assisted by the Diocesan Synod office which retains photocopies of the registers. Otherwise written permission must be received from the Bishop of Yukon in order to examine the original registers.
