Né à Sorel en 1923 de Émile Pontbriand et Mélodie Chartier, M. Pontbriand a travaillé chez Marine Industries Limited, pour M. Lucien Lachapelle, comme contremaître de travaux d'excavation et il fut également contremaître à Sidbec-Dosco.<br/><br/>Marié à Lucette Désorcy en 1951 à l'église Saint-Pierre de Sorel, il est père de trois enfants.<br/><br/>Passionné de généalogie et d'histoire, M. Pontbriand s'est impliqué dans la Société de généalogie Les Patriotes où il a réalisé plusieurs travaux de recherche sur les familles Pontbriand et Désorcy; et la Société historique Pierre-de-Saurel inc. dont il fut membre et bénévole actif de 1986 jusqu'à son décès le 29 avril 1996
