Custodial history

Dr. Abram Hoffer donated these records to the Saskatoon office, Saskatchewan Archives, in 2 accession in 1988 and 2006: S88-77 (October 3, 1988); and S2006-47 (October 11, 2006).

Scope and content

This series consists of correspondence between Dr. Hoffer and other physicians around the world. This correspondence, both incoming and outgoing, is arranged alphabetically by correspondent's surname, in three sub-series.

"A-1" correspondence is with physicians who have illness within their own families. Most often these physicians are seeking Dr. Hoffer's advice or assistance in treating their afflicted relatives, usually schizophrenics.

"A-2 correspondence is with physicians using orthomolecular medicine or psychiatry. These physicians are frequently requesting technical advice and detailed information concerning orthomolecular treatment.

"A-3" correspondence is with physicians who are merely requesting information regarding orthomolecular medicine or psychiatry. These requests are usually simpler than in A-2, often asking for specific information such as reprints, addresses, treatment manuals, and the like.
