Biographical history
E.R. Baker ranched on two sections of land immediately east of the Bar U Ranch south of Longview, Alberta. He supplemented his ranching income by operating a general store, sometimes called the Pekisko Store. His customers included many Stoney First Nation cattle hands who worked on the neighboring ranches. In 1917 another store, the South Fork Trading Post, opened in the area, and by 1919 Baker's store apparently went out of business. The South Fork Trading Post became known as the Pekisko Store after 1927, when the Pekisko Post Office was located there.
Custodial history
The fonds was found in Mary Donahue's house at 309 -- 5th Avenue SE in High River. It came into the possession of her relative, John Donahue.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of notes on the accounts of Baker's customers, hand-drawn maps showing his land holdings in relation to the Bar U Ranch, a small amount of business correspondence, and a catalogue from D.E. Black & Co., jewelers in Calgary
