Biographical history
Edwin John Walker was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 1, 1932. He attended the University of Saskatchewan from 1950 to 1955, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in agriculture specializing in horticulture. Following graduation, Walker was employed by the Canadian government performing horticultural research in the Northwest Territories. Walker returned to university in 1957, enrolling at the University of California, Berkeley. He graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture receiving the American Society of Landscape Architects' Certificate of Merit for Excellence.
Walker found employment with a landscape architect, a landscape contractor, and a commercial nursery firm in the San Francisco area. He later returned to Canada to accept a position as a landscape architect with the federal Department of Agriculture in Ottawa. He was responsible for developing master site plans for agriculture research stations across Canada and for developing plans for the Central Experimental Farm and the National Botanical Gardens. Walker returned to school in 1963, enrolling in the Masters of Landscape Architecture programme at the University of Michigan, graduating in 1965. In 1966, Walker moved to Regina, Saskatchewan to join the Wascana Centre Authority as Director of Maintenance and Development.
In 1975, Walker formed Habitat Design Limited. As the principal landscape architect of the firm, he worked on over 300 projects in Regina and southern Saskatchewan. He served on the Design Advisory Committee of the Meewasin Valley Authority and was a sessional lecturer in the Department of Horticulture at the University of Saskatchewan. He is a past-president of the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects and the Saskatchewan Association of Landscape Architects. Walker has received several awards, including the Regina Urban Design Award in 1981, the Premier's Award of Merit in 1985, and the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal in 2005.
Walker married Lois Ritz in 1977. They have four children: Sheila, Robert, Todd, and David. Walker retired from practice in 2009 and continues (2013) to reside in Regina.

Edwin John Walker donated these records to the Regina office, Saskatchewan Archives in three accessions between 2010 and 2012: 2010-368 (November 23, 2010); 2012-025 (January 27, 2012); and 2012-239 (October 10, 2012).

This fonds consists of records created, used and accumulated by Edwin John Walker in his architectural career. The types of records are portfolios of
