Biographical history
From 1876 to 1918 the financial records of the TGH were maintained by the Secretary, Mr. A.F. Miller. He was succeeded in this capacity by Mr. R.M Longmore, Assistant Superintendent, Administrative (1921-1956). Beginning in 1956 a formal finance department was established, under the direction of Mr. L.J.H. Campbell, Comptroller (1956-June 1962). Following Mr. Campbell’s retirement, the department was headed by Mr. W.L. Louth, first as Comptroller (June 1962-1966) and then as Director of Finance (1967-September 1971); by Mr. J. Turner (Comptroller October 1971-1973, Director of Finance 1974-1982); and by Mr. J. Elliott, Director of Finance 1982-1986.

Scope and content
Series consists of records created and collected by the TGH Finance Department and predecessor bodies, and by individual executive officers responsible for maintaining the general financial records of the TGH. Records include financial statements, ledgers, accounts payable records, comparative expense analyses, financial and statistical returns, correspondence as well as deeds and endowments.

Immediate source of acquisition
With the exception of the files noted below, the records in this series were transferred to the Archives in February 1988 from the Office of the President. The records in file 32.2.1 were transferred to the Archives in November 1987 from the Finance Department. The records in file 32.5.2 were transferred to the Archives in February 1988 by the Manager of the Physiotherapy Department. The records in files 32.1.43 to 32.1.64; 32.6.1 to 32.6.11; and 32.7.1 to 32.7.2 were transferred to the Archives in July 2003 from TTH Office of the President.
