Biographical history
L'abbé Ivanhoë Caron est né à l'Islet en 1875. Il étudie au Petit et au Grand Séminaire de Québec et est ordonné prêtre le 25 juillet 1900. Vicaire à Saint-Joseph-de-Lévis en 1901, puis étudiant au Collège Canadien à Rome de 1901 à 1904, il est de nouveau vicaire à Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Québec de 1904 à 1909. Ancien missionnaire-colonisateur en chef au Département de la Colonisation, il devient l'autorité en matière d'histoire de la colonisation (LA COLONISATION DE LA PROVINCE DE QUÉBEC, Québec, 1923-1927, 2 volumes); assistant-archiviste de la province, il amasse de nombreux papiers d'intérêt historique. L'abbé Caron meurt à Québec le 1er octobre 1941

Scope and content
Les documents textuels de ce fonds sont en majorité des coupures de journaux sur divers sujets mais plus particulièrement sur l'agriculture et la colonisation. On retrouve égalemment de la correspondance et des documents de la société Royale du Canada, ainsi que de la correspondance et autres documents ayant surtout trait à la colonisation. Les documents photographiques illustrent les débuts de la colonisation en Abitibi-Témiscamingue
