History

The Greater Vernon Museum & Archives opened in 1950. It began with a donation of mounted animals, birds, and native artifacts from the estate of pioneer Vernon taxidermist and furrier, William C. Pound.

The Greater Vernon Museum and Archives contains a regional archives whose purpose is to collect, preserve, research, exhibit, and interpret the history of the North Okanagan. Emphasis is placed on 1) public, commercial, and private records pertinent to the North Okanagan and 2) accessibility to the public for research and education.
