Biographical history

Herbert H. Murphy graduated in Medicine from McGill University in 1904 and practiced in Ontario before taking post-graduate training in Philadelphia, London and Edinburgh. He came to British Columbia in 1912 and practiced in Kamloops before coming to Victoria as Director of the Department of Radiology of the Royal Jubilee Hospital in 1931. He continued in this position until his retirement in 1951. He helped establish the Victoria Cancer Clinic in the early 1950s.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of a diary and correspondence. The personal diary, 1952-1957, discusses weather, family and social activities, and some medical activities, and includes enclosures of programmes, invitations and clippings. The correspondence, 1954-59, is regarding publications and a journalism course.
