This fonds consists of a map and the accompanying Remarks relative to the sketch of St. Johns... which were prepared by an officer who had "run over " the Island in 1762 in a whale boat with a French pilot and thirty men by order of the "General" (possibly Hardwicke). The survey concentrated on the sites of the former French settlements and their prospects for settlement by the English. It remarked positively concerning the rich meadows and cleared lands and based future prosperity on agriculture and fishing.
