Four out of ten Canadians cannot read well enough for all of their everyday tasks. LINKS volunteers can help with basic, everyday things like grocery shopping and letter writing. And they can help with our technological world -- with bank machines, computers and the gadgets used at home and on the farm. LINKS volunteers can encourage the persons they help to take advantage of literacy programs to improve their skills. Some LINKS volunteers will work as mentors. Others will volunteer their time at a community centre. Some will concentrate on the special needs of groups like the elderly. All LINKS volunteers will give help on a confidential basis. LINKS projects will be promoted through use of the distinctive butterfly symbol."
