Bailly family fonds

Fonds consists of deeds and other items predominantly accumulated by Georges-Frederic Bailly and his son Joseph Bailly concerning property in Lunenburg, 1754-1824. Also includes deeds of property later acquired by the Bailly family and an account dated 1827, playing cards used to draw lots of land in Lunenburg, baptismal certificate, Georges-Frederick Bailly's certificate of naturalization, and two bound note books of his entitled, "Abrege de 16 discours, sur la redemption des hommes par la mort de Christ", 1780, which contains some notes on the Bailly family, and "Les degres de la vie spirituelle representes dan la vie interieure de Theodore de Brakel ministre de l'eglise de Makum en Frise [Holland]", 1775, written for his son Joseph.

Henry Youle Hind fonds

Fonds consists of draft chapters of a manuscript entitled "Fisheries of British North America", 1877, including some related correspondence and research notes. Also includes two files of notes concerning the early townships of Falmouth, Horton, Cornwallis and Newport, and Indians of Nova Scotia; scrapbook of newspaper clippings compiled by Hind which include several printed letters he wrote to Nova Scotian newspapers, 1870-1871, mostly regarding King's College, Windsor. There are also some printed letters on the same subject from professors Henry How, F.C. Sumichrast, and others, and a few clippings pertaining to Hind's investigation of the Laurentian system of rocks in Nova Scotia; seven miscellaneous letters to and from Hind, 1877-1905, which include mention of his works, geological theories, early land grants in Windsor, and the proposed railway in Nova Scotia, 1870s; and two letters from his brother, painter William G.R. Hind, 1870.

Ellen Wainwright fonds

Fonds consists of two photograph albums compiled by Ellen O'Brien Wainwright, one containing photographs depicting scenes of Edgehill School for Girls, Windsor, including students, school activities and sports events, 1916-1917. The other album depicts military personnel during World War I, celebrations including the Dominion Day parade, 1918, house decorated for Armistice Day, 1919, military camp at Fort Edward, Windsor, 1918, sports and recreation at Edgehill, Windsor, and Evangeline Beach, Kings County, and other scenes in Hants County. Also includes a photograph of three soldiers, one of which is Evan Wainwright, of the 85th Batallion, Nova Scotia Highlanders.

Fonds consists of records documenting Grant's law practice in Guysborough and includes both client files and firm administrative records (chiefly financial). Fonds also contains court case files and personal records such as correspondence and other material relating to Grant's legal studies at Dalhousie Law School.

Fonds also contains certificates and lecture notes kept while studying at Dalhousie Law School, court case files, miscellaneous legal records concerning lands, printed material, and records relating to his brother, Allan Green.

Fonds consists of minute books of the museum's executive, general and annual meetings, 1908-1962, which also contain correspondence and treasurer's reports; scrapbook compiled by curator Elizabeth Nutt containing lists of paintings belonging to the museum, newspaper clippings, and memoranda, 1936-1957; general files arranged in chronological order, containing correspondence, day books, financial records, and pamphlets concerning the arrangement of events, exhibitions, acquisitions, repair and restoration of paintings, and the Maritime Art Association, 1937-1953; proposal for the building of a museum of fine arts in Halifax; and an inventory of paintings and other works owned by the museum which includes name of artist, physical description of art work, and estimated value.

John George Marshall fonds

Fonds consists of correspondence and other records relating to John George Marshall's professional career and his personal activities. Correspondence includes letters written to and from Marshall pertaining to his career in law and public office, particuarly the court of chancery, as well as his research, publishing matters, temperance and religious discussions, and family and personal news. Correspondents include Sir James Kempt, William Young, and daughter Mary (Marshall) Black, wife of William Lang Black. Fonds also contains commissions, appointments, petitions, notes, essays, manuscripts, sermons, newspaper clippings, deeds and other legal documents, financial records, sheet music, and a few poems. Records concern Confederation, temperance, religion, Cape Breton roads, and the Court of Chancery, notably the case of Bown vs Bown. Also included are genealogical notes and biographical information on John George Marshall and the Marshall family, a few items, 1930s-1963, added later by relatives.
