Hans Armfelt fonds

The fonds consists of the letters that Hans Armfelt wrote to his family in Denmark between 1931 and 1937, and a book published in 2009 that compiles all the letters that he wrote home from 1926 to 1942. The book is entitled "All I Need Now are some Chickens, a Cow, and a Wife". The book is illustrated with photographs. It was compiled by Richard Merdin Armfelt. There is also a document from the Alberta Department of the Attorney General, acting as administrator of the estate of Axel Smith, which leased Lake Lot 15 to Hans Armfelt in 1939.

The fonds consists of photographs with the following subject headings: Mrs. Alchorn, Clifford Bell, Herman Bieber, Hans Birkigt, Rita Birkigt, Walter Bruchhausen, Ernst Feuereisen, furs, Joe Gill, Earl Kay, Charlie Linders, Fred Meyer, Kurt George (Dick) Naumann (1901-1978), Old Trading Post store, trucking, and Paul Wickers. Rita Birkigt lists the names of other trappers, and mink and fox ranchers, in a seven page article. Other material includes correspondence with Monica Cardinal, Clifford House, May McIntosh, and C.B.Olson; tax receipts and fur licenses, and an article about Rita published in the Jan.1, 1987 edition of Western People, a supplement to The Western Producer. There is a financial statement for the Athabasca Curling Club for the year ending April, 1970. Rita also handled funeral expenses and dispersement of property for Ernst Feuereisen, Abraham Funk and Adeline Logan. The artifact is a snuff can opener.

The fonds consists of 2 articles from the RCMP Quarterly and a patrol report by Constable Thorne dated Dec. 1914; copies of 113 B&W photographs and negatives taken during his years of service with the RCMP in the North West Territories and 60 original negatives, from a Kodak negative album, including negatives for 2 photographs taken in 1922 of people during the Nahanni Gold Rush (including Alvah and Hubert Thorne and Poole Field) , scenes at Mud Lake, George Bremner, Thorne at the Edmonton RNWMP barracks, photographs of Fort Simpson and Rae, airplanes, children at the Roman Catholic mission at Providence, and a group of mounties at Jasper.

There is also a certificate for 10 shares purchased in Athabasca Clay Products in November, 1967.

Isreal CJJ Shank fonds

The fonds consists of correspondence and certificates of Isreal Shank including Olds School of Agriculture, his years in the RCMP, his involvement in numerous horticultural endeavours and cards from his 95th birthday. There is a booklet entitled "Jackie"(about a seagull) written by his second wife, Aileen Teal Shank, 2 books written by Isreal Shank: " Memories of a Mountie" and "Some Things I Remember", and a copy of Athabasca Album with an addendum of commentary. There are 23 photographs of Mr. Shank including a signed photo of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip; 1 audio cassette; and 4 artifacts : 1933, 175 lb. boxing championship medal, 1951 presidential plaque of Saskatchewan Horticultural Societies Association, 1936 Alberta Prosperity Certificate and a 1940s fur RCMP hat. The last addition is the 1952 document naming Mr. Shank as a Sub-Inspector in the RCMP. It is signed by Governor-General Vincent Massey. A scrapbook has items regarding the boxing prowess of Isreal and his brothers. Oliver represented Canada at the Berlin Olympics in 1936 as the light heavyweight champ of Canada.
