  • [1762]

This fonds consists of a map and the accompanying Remarks relative to the sketch of St. Johns... which were prepared by an officer who had "run over " the Island in 1762 in a whale boat with a French pilot and thirty men by order of the "General" (possibly Hardwicke). It remarked positively concerning the rich meadows and cleared lands and based future prosperity on agriculture and fishing. The map is also accompanied by a 3p. typed transcript of the Remarks, prepared by the donor.

The author of the map and remarks is anonymous.
