Rochester East School District #4290 fonds

The fonds consists of the minute book for May, 1927 to March, 1949; and correspondence for 1937 to 1938 which includes the 1937 report of school superintendent Mr. Kostash. Correspndence for 1938 to 1943 has evidence of Rochester East School as part of the Pembina School District #37 and includes 1939, 1940 and 1942 superintendent's reports. Correspondence from 1943 onward has evidence of Rochester East School as part of the Athabasca School District #42. Financial records cover 1937-1946. Also included are the 1931 Alberta School Act with amendments for 1935, 1938 and 1939 and addresses from the 1944 Alberta School Trustees Association convention. An undated Rochester East School District voters list for electing trustees completes the collection. The artifact is the Rochester East School District stamp and ink pad.

Sisters of Providence of St.Vincent de Paul fonds

The fonds consists of a book entitled: Sisters of Providence of St.Vincent de Paul by Sister Mary Electa in 1961; ideas for the redesign of the Lessard house floor plan to accommodate 23-30 students, photocopied pictures of the first group of girls at Rosary Academy in Sept.1948, and pictures of the Home for the Aged and Chronically Ill. There are also photographs of the sisters who served in these two capacities.

The fonds consists of vol.12 no.2 of the Canadian Journal of Native Education published by the Department of Educational Foundations, Faculty of Education, University of Alberta. This special issue featured an article entitled "Northland: the founding of a Wilderness School System" by John W. Chalmers, which chronicles the formation and first years of operation of this division. The Mennonite Service Organization, headquartered in Indiana, recruited young college graduates to serve as missionaries in underdeveloped parts of the world. A number of them taught in the Northland School Division.

The subjects of the photographs include: Trail North Foundation June, 1978 trip down the Athabasca River, Kurt George (Dick) Naumann, Upper Wells, Herman Leicht, Lee Melsness, German Cabin, 1952 construction of the Athabasca Bridge, 1940's flood, Feb., 1966 Klondike Karavan trip, Friends of Athabasca University: Ken Chapman, Dr. Sam Smith, Doreen Leicht and MLA Frank Appleby, Egge's Stopping House (1906), York boat on Athabasca River (1906), Athabasca Landing (1906), boat "The Beaver", steamboat, Slave Lake (1912), and the Big Smoky River. Also included are the 1976 and 1977 programs for the Athabasca and District Music Festival and an Athabasca Creamery calendar for 1943.
