Alexander Francis Kelsey fonds

The fonds consists of 28 original black and white photographs, 7 photographs developed from negatives, and two pages of excerpts from letters written to his fiance. The excerpts are filed with the photographs. The photos include: Athabasca, Grand Rapids and tramway, House River, oil well drilling rigs, Pelican gas wells, and steamboats.

Canadian National Railway fonds

The fonds consists of a 1986 letter from J.G. Cote regarding the Canadian Northern Railway; material regarding the Northern Alberta Railways Company and the McKeen gasoline cars; a record of CNR yard leases in Athabasca from 1946 to 1986l; and photocopies of articles from The Hub Newspaper in Westlock, dated 1980-1990, concerning closing the rail line from Legal to Athabasca. One map shows the condensed plan and profile (rail bed elevations) of the Athabasca Subdivision of the Canadian National Railway from Morinville (mile 20.29) to Athabasca (mile 93.1) in 1976. It was originally drawn in 1938. A terrain map is part of it. The other map, dated 1959, shows only the rail bed elevations from Athabasca to NAR Junction in Edmonton.

The fonds consists of a spark plug from a power generator, the [1905-1910] illustrated General Catalog NO. 10 of the Canadian Fairbanks Company Limited, and an aerial photograph taken by Len on June 16, 2003 as he flew over the Grand Rapids on the Athabasca River.

Christopher Johnston (family) fonds

The fonds consists of photographs of the Johnston family, William R. (Bill) Day's moose team, the Johnston house and bakery, and cattle boarding the ferry to cross the river. Daisy Gooding (Johnston) wrote a brief family history which includes information on the 1913 fire, 1918 Spanish flu epidemic, and life as a ferryman.

The fonds consists of one article entitled "Athabasca Landing Ferry, (1906-1951)." The ferry service in Athabasca Landing began in 1906. In 1934 a cable cage system was installed as an auxiliary service to the ferry. When a bridge across the Athabasca River opened in 1952 the ferry service was discontinued. The article is illustrated with photographs, newspaper articles and crossing statistics.
