Biographical history
John, fils de Patrick et de Mary Foran, est né en Irlande en 1810. Arrivé au Canada en 1830, il s'établit à Aylmer (Québec), ouvre un magasin général, devient marchand de bois et fournisseur de nombreux chantiers forestiers dans les comtés de Pontiac et Témiscamingue. Il se marie le 23 mai 1838 avec Mary Louisa Fulford, puis se remarie le 17 octobre 1855 avec Catherine Francis Kearney. Nommé juge de paix pour le district d'Ottawa en 1847, il est désigné exécuteur testamentaire (avec James Doyle et l'hon. Louis F. Drummond) de la succession John Egan (décédé en 1857), et ce, jusqu'en 1866. Il fut en outre commissaire d'école et marguillier de la paroisse Saint-Paul d'Aylmer ainsi que conseiller municipal de la municipalité du Canton de Hull-Sud. Il meurt à Aylmer le 25 février 1896

Cette série reflète les activités de John Foran comme politicien municipal, comme administrateur scolaire et comme homme d'affaires, notamment ses relations avec les entrepreneurs forestiers des deux rives de l'Outaouais. Ses activités comme juge de paix du district d'Ottawa sont également illustrées.
