History

Established in 1937, the Kamloops Museum & Archives is among the oldest community museums in the province. Archival collections held at the KMA's Mary Balf Archives have been part of the museum mandate from its beginning. The KMA collects and preserves archival records related to Kamloops and surrounding areas.

The Kamloops Museum and Archives is a community museum dedicated to the collection, preservation and display of artifacts and archival documents which relate to the history of Kamloops and the Kamloops region. Archival documents in the form of papers, maps, books, photographs, journals, film, video, cassettes, etc., are collected from the trade era beginning 1812, through the gold rush, the Overlanders, mining, ranching, railway, Victorian period, military, and twentieth century. The museum collects material for neighbouring towns which have no museum or archives.
