The Maritime Museum of British Columbia, Victoria, BC, is operated by the Maritime Museum of British Columbia Society. The Museum was established in 1954 and moved to its present location in the old Court House on Bastion Square in 1964.
The Museum acquires artifacts, archival records, art works, publications and other historical reference material relating to maritime history and the maritime culture of Canada's West Coast. Its archival holdings include extensive collections of corporate and private records, personal papers, nautical charts, ships plans, photographs and art works.

Collecting mandate includes objects, archival records, and historical reference material pertaining to the maritime history of British Columbia.

Textual records: 10,000+ items in the form of steamship ephemera, logbooks, ship records, personal papers, letters and journals
Ship plans: 30,000 plans representing 900+ vessels, primarily from the 1920s to 1960s
Charts: 5,000+ with Admiralty hydrographic charts from the mid-1800s to present day Canadian hydrographic charts
Photographs: 36,000 items, including ca. 8000 of vessels
Photograph albums & scrapbooks: 200 items
Art works: 1,000+ items, framed and unframed
Monographs: 7,000 items
Journals and periodicals: 300+ titles
Three dimensional objects: 35,000 items

Predominant Dates: 1900-1985
