Ottawa Jewish Archives
Established in 1969, The Ottawa Jewish Archives (OJA) serves to preserve the history, growth, and development of the Jewish community of Ottawa and the National Capital Region. The OJA is dedicated to its objectives of gathering, documenting, and preserving the collective memory of the community and ensuring that our holdings of historical records, artifacts, and ephemera remain accessible to all persons.
Built by Barry J. Hobin & Associates Architects Inc. in 1998, the OJA operates under the Jewish Federation of Ottawa and is located within the Soloway Jewish Community Centre.
The OJA is home to over 25,000 records and 8,500 photographs which detail the community’s history beginning circa 1880 to present. Generally speaking the OJA's collections are comprise fonds for Individuals and Families; Businesses, Community Organisations; Educational Organizations; Congregations; etc.
The OJA is open to the public Mondays-Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Visitors to the Soloway Jewish Community Centre (SJCC) must present their SJCC membership card or photo ID (for non-members) at the reception desk.
It is recommended that researchers make an appointment with the archivist prior to their visit. Research Requests and Appointments can be made by e-mail (archives@jewishottawa.com) or by phone (613-798-4696 ext. 260).
