Biographical history
St. Stephen's-Broadway United Church existed in Winnipeg from 1927 until 1997. The predecessors of St. Stephen's-Broadway United Church were St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church and Broadway United Church. The two congregations amalgamated in 1927 and moved into the former Broadway United Church structure at the corner of Broadway and Kennedy Street. The inaugural service of St. Stephen's-Broadway United Church was held on April 3, 1927. In March 1968, St. Stephen's-Broadway United Church was ravaged by a fire that caused an estimated $500,000 worth of damage. The church was extensively rebuilt and re-opened its doors in September of 1970. In 1997, St. Stephen's-Broadway United Church, Home Street Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and John Wesley United Church amalgamated into one congregation under the name 'Broadway Disciples United Church'. Broadway Disciples United Church is located at 396 Broadway, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Custodial history
The records of St. Stephen's-Broadway United Church were received by the archives in a series of donations, most notably in 2010. Some records accumulated over time in the vertical file of the conference archives of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario and were accessioned in 2002.
